Should We Bother?

Interesting article on a new 'Shots Fired' video taped here on our Cheney campus and will soon be distributed nationwide.
Apparently, there is a debate over whether this will actually help students prepare for a possible incident or if it will encourage more violence.
I have a hard time believing there is any downside to training students how to react in an emergency, considering the events of Virginia Tech.
But it's a great debate.

Emergency Alerts

It's been a full year since EWU signed on to a new text messaging alert system for emergency announcements. Turns out we were one of the first colleges to go this route, and have been cited in many articles nationwide whenever the issue of campus safety is discussed.
Here's the latest sent out by a national news wire website.

Some of you might refer to this time as the dog days of summer, as things are fairly slow and fall quarter is still more than six weeks away.
A few things going on around campus and the community as highlighted by the stories below.
