Bittersweet Seahawks camp

Seeing the success of this year's camp is somewhat bittersweet for many of us here at Eastern, who know that we likely will have just one more Seahawk summer here on campus. We're not going to go out with a whimper, though, as we'll be looking to make next year's camp even better than this year's. I could write at least 20 reasons why the Seahawks should keep their summer camp in Cheney, but I'm saving that for next summer, when we try to convince the Hawks to stay.

Here's a story on the Seahawks' impact on Cheney and EWU from the Everett paper.

Crash can't derail wedding

EWU students Jared Darr and Amanda McCadden got their lives together as husband and wife off to a conspicuous start, as their wedding kiss was broadcast and announced in newspapers from coast to coast. A car crash injured the groom right before the wedding, but the couple went through with the ceremony anyway -- from Darr's hospital bed...

Not the kind of active we had in mind...

Hmmm, seems like we had some uranium lying around in a drawer in our Science Building for years. Here's the scoop from S-R reporter Shawn Vestal.

Eagles' all-time best comic book artist at it again

Todd McFarlane, an EWU grad and one of the most famous comic book artists in the world, also has a company that produces action figures and small statuettes. His latest creation, a figurine of just-inducted NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, got some ink in the Canton, Ohio (home of the NFL Hall of Fame) newspaper.

EXTRAVAGANZA!

Wow -- the Seahawks Extravaganza on Saturday was probably the most successful event we've ever put on here at Eastern... with a little help from our NFC Champs guests...

I'm kind of bummed out that they'll be likely moving their training camp to Renton after next summer's camp, but I'm holding out a little sliver of hope that we can convince them their tradition at EWU is more important than the bit of convenience they get by having camp in Renton.

If you weren't able to get out here to campus for the Extravaganza, check out what you missed on this 4-minute video from the 'Hawks' website -- just click on the video tab on navigation bar on the site and scroll the video pane in the center of the screen down to "Extravaganza!"

Also, here's a great story about how Shaun Alexander spends his free time in Cheney during camp. He's more than just an MVP on the field...

Hamilton a hit at press conference

Eastern's new A.D. was a bundle of enthusiasm at yesterday afternoon's press conference and it shows in this Spokesman Review story written by Dave Trimmer. Dr. Hamilton did have me sweating though, as he got a bit delayed and made it to the press conference just 3 minutes before it was supposed to begin -- but it was all good once I got him up in front of everybody...
